The quaint little cafe was in walking distance from where Ferris Calvin stood. About twenty steps away. Hands in the pocket of his blue jeans he strolled to the open door. Once inside, he took a seat at a nearby booth and pulled out a leather bound, crimson journal. Black pen in one hand he opened the book and started on a blank page. The words came out scribbled and sloppy but still readable. Chocolate strands of hair fell in his face as he leaned over. So far he had written:
Today's petty disagreement with my mom over who would cook breakfast led to disaster. In the end she claimed victory and scrambled eggs with ketchup and bacon that looked like it had been burnt to death sat on my plate. I stared at it for ten minutes before she noticed and scolded me. Note to self - Don't let mom cook.
Although, he thought as he lifted the pen from the paper, I already knew that... A waitress who looked to be about his age with sandy blonde hair and too much eye make-up came to his table. "What would you like to order?" she asked somewhat hurriedly.
"Just water, no lemon please," he replied politely. He had come here because it seemed to be a quiet place where he could work on his writing and think about things. Honestly, he needed this time to do his homework, but hell with doing that right now. His eyes wandered from table to table; distractions were all around him. How was he going to focus?

Walking inside the cafe, ocean blue eyes glanced around, looking for a place to sit. There was a small booth close to a brown-haired male. Walking over she sat down, her eyes going down to a crimson red cell phone that opened up, showing a keyboard. She was waiting for a call from her modeling agency.
She wore a pair of dark demin jeans, a simply black tanktop and orange flats. Her eyes moved from her phone, to the male. She couldn't help but stare at him for a moment. She never say a guy who actually wrote in a journal. She sighed, letting her nosey side get the best of her and she got up, moving to his booth, sitting infront of him. "Um...hello." she said. "You looked really....alone over here." she lied. She just wanted someone to talk to. Her friends weren't actually friends. They always back stabbed her, and she finally accepted it.
"I'm Crimson." she said, putting her small hand out slightly to him, for him to shake. She ignored the waitress come back with his water, looking into the male's gray eyes, falling in love with the color instantly. She looked away shyly, her pale cheeks brightening some. "Uh. I'll leave you alone." she said, getting up, walking off to find a table away from him. She just made herself look like a pyscho maniac.

More people had busied themselves in the cafe with their laptops, phones, and chit chat so Ferris had second thoughts about staying here to finish his writing. The voice he heard next, closer than anyone else, startled him slightly and his clouded eyes shot up. His expression smoothed when he recognized the face in front of him. Who couldn't remember that bright-colored hair? He had seen her at the high school he attended so he assumed that she must live in the same general area. She introduced herself first so he waited patiently, a little annoyed to be interrupted from his work but (though he won't admit it now) interested in what she had to say. "Ferris," he stated mildly, closing his book and studying the girl called "Crimson".
His water came and he tipped it to his mouth and drank. He gulped the liquid for a long time and set it down on a napkin. He was more thirsty than he remembered. Ferris studied Crimson and noted that she looked nervous. Why? He didn't get why people were shy. There was no reason to be afraid to talk to people unless they wielded a dangerous weapon, which was unlikely in this nice neighborhood.
When she stood up and began to leave it puzzled him once more. He spoke before he could think it through. "Where are you going?" Okay, so it wasn't the question he wanted to get out. A better question would be, 'why did you approach me and leave right after?'.

Crimson looked back, "Ah....away." she said, looking down, then back to where she was going. She had seen him around too. She walked to the counter, ordering a coffee. Then she was going to most likely leave. She wanted to stay, to talk with Ferris, but she felt she somehow already annoyed him.
She got her coffee, then thought for a moment. She made her way back to his table. "I'm...sorry I interrupted you. Just.... you seemed like someone I could talk to. I've..seen you around school. You're a senior, aren't you?" she asked, looking back down at her nails against the coffee cup.

The aroma of Crimson's coffee drifted to Ferris's nostrils. Tomorrow is coffee day, he quickly decided. The girl spoke slowly and Ferris barely caught the words over the chatter of people that elevated in the cafe each second. He smiled for the first time since their conversation started and turned his eyes in her direction. "I'm a junior," he said with the faint hint of a chuckle. A lot of people at school, when first meeting Ferris, thought he was a senior. One morning he had looked himself in the mirror and while fixing his reflection he figured that he looked older than his age.
He felt the stubble on his chin and thought that maybe that added to his "older" appearance. Well, Crimson wasn't intimidating or pressing on his personal matters so he decided to clear things up. He said, "Sit down and chat with me for awhile, won't you?" He gestured to her with a swish of his hands in the direction of the booth across from him.

Crimson looked from his eyes, down to her coffee once more. "Oh. Sorry." she said, "I'm a senior. But noone would of guessed that." she laughed slightly. What was she doing? Only embarassing herself, it felt like. She looked at his hair, and his skin. He was quite stunning to look at. And if she couldn't at least have a relationship with him, she'd want to be his friend.
"Sure. If..you want." she said, sitting down across from him. "What...would you like to talk about?" she asked.

"What... would you like to talk about?"
Ferris took a moment to think about the question. He found himself having nothing to reply with except his usual answer when his mind drew a blank so he asked, "Do you enjoy reading?" It was a safe topic for Ferris. Books and writing were like second nature to him. He had picked up a book at age six and the love for words hasn't stopped since. It also goes along with the way he talks.
His eyes shifted from a couple kissing over their coffee, to an old man busy typing on a laptop. Technology has even reached retirees, he thought, amused. He looked back to Crimson and waited for her reply. If she says yes, then it will make this conversation easy, he observed. But if she says no, then I will definitely have to fix up something to talk about.

Crimson smiled slightly as he spoke. She shrugged slightly, "I guess so. I mean, when I can, I don't like the things they make us read in school." she shrugged. "Just not my type of stuff." she said, looking at him seeming to lose interested. Another sigh escaped from her lips, and her eyes dropped to her coffee, shyness was taking over. "What...about you?" she asked, her ocean eyes looking back into his. Everytime she looked at him, it seemed she was falling more and more for him. No. You can't do this to yourself Crim, she thought to herself. Why not give it a try?

"Oh," he said, the one word expressing a tiny bit of disappointment. He could see her becoming shy again so he decided he would lend a helping hand. He smiled and said, "I'll give you one of my books to read sometime once I figure out the type you like." That was a promise. What he really meant though was that once he figured out her personality and the type of person she was, he would hand her the right novel that would let her mind unravel. He believed a good book could do a lot for a person.
"What... about you?"
He gave himself a moment to think and answered smoothly, "I've read so many books over the years that it's hard to pick a single one out. But in my spare time I write in one of my notebooks." His hand gestured to the book on the table. Then, noticing that he was rambling on about something she probably didn't have much interest in, he asked, "What do you like to do in your free time?" His cloudy eyes softened a little while he watched her.

Crimson stared into his eyes, smilign some. "Well, I've never met a guy that actually writes." she said. She shrugged lightly, as he spoke to her. "Party, I guess." she smiled slightly, looking down. "There's a party... Saturday. Do you want to come...with me?" she asked, watching him.
She looked to the notebook, kind of wanting to read it, but she held herself back from asking. It'd be rude, right?

Her question caught him off-guard this time and he smoothed back his tangly hair. It took him a few seconds before he could reply, "A party, eh?" He was flattered that she asked him and so sudden too. He should probably go because she seemed like a nice girl and he didn't have anything to do that day, he thought to himself. Okay, then it was decided. He smiled some more than he had before and said, "Sure. That would be nice. Where's it at?"
He watched her eyeing his notebook and he pushed it over to her. "You can read it if you'd like. It's a new journal so I only started it this morning. Just a recall of the events that happened today," he said. Curiously, he found himself wanting her to read it and know what she thought.

Crimson looked at him and nodded slightly. "Ah. It's at 5600 N. Saguaro Road, in Paradise Valley." she said. "But if you want, I could pick you up, or something." she said, realizing how gast he was moving. She then looked down at the notebook. "Are...you sure?" she asked, opening it up, her eyes looking down, scanning over the page as she began to read.

He waited for her to finish reading and said, "How about I pick you up instead? It would be ungentlemen-like for me to not offer." If she lived close by, which she probably did, he would have no problem picking her up on the way. The party was located nearby to his place, so it would be a piece of cake. "What do you think?" he asked, referring to his notebook.

Crimson smiled some, "It's amazing." she said, looking up into his eyes. "Okay. If you really want to." she said, looking at him still. "Would....you be my date? So neither of us have to worry about being alone while we are there?" she asked nervous. Maybe she should of kept her mouth shut.

He stroked his chin as if he were thinking very carefully. His hand fell to his side and he smiled playfully. "Sure I'll be your date." He could feel himself opening more to this girl, Crimson. Little baby steps at a time, he could imagine a voice in his head telling him. It was true, even though he wouldn't admit it now. He needed to open up his life to people. Okay not everyone, but the few that he would let in. Perhaps Crimson was one of those people? He wouldn't jump to the conclusion right now, he told himself. Just see how it goes...
