SIXTEEN YEARS LATER
It’s sixteen years after the trio graduated Hogwarts, and everything is going well. Hermione is now the Mistress of Magic, newly elected. She’s of course, married to Ron and has a couple of kids named Rose and Hugo. Rose is now in her third year at Hogwarts, while Hugo is in his first. Harry is the Headmaster of Hogwarts and he and Ginny live in the school with their three children: Albus, Lily, and James. Albus is in his third year at Hogwarts, while Lily is in her first. James attends the muggle school that Hugo attends and is the same age as the youngest Weasley child.
Everything seems to be going well in the magical world. No one fears the dark wizard that once threatened to destroy the community. People call the 15 years after the death of Lord Voldemort the Golden Years. Little do they know it, there was one more horcrux lying around somewhere and it’s actually in Harry’s possession—the Marauder’s Map. Voldemort was always afraid of death, and he knew that seven was the most magical number. So he hid the first six horcruxes knowing that there was a chance they would be found and destroyed. He could only think of one way that the seventh wouldn’t be found—and that was to use something that no one would believe was a horcrux.
Thanks to Scabbers, otherwise known as Wormtail, or Peter Pettigrew, Voldemort was able to get his hands on the map. You see, Scabbers at one time was the pet of the Weasley family and therefore had access to such precious things as the Marauder’s Map. Once he had the Marauder’s Map he turned it into a horcrux and gave it back to Pettigrew so that he could return it to the Weasley’s. No one knew of this trade off and nothing was ever expected.
Fred and George eventually gave the map to Harry, and it was in Harry’s possession that the map remained. It sat dormant and functioned like the map that it was created to be; because of this no one ever considered it a danger or though that it may be used for something more evil later on when it was least expected.
During the battle, the final battle something went wrong. Someone told Voldemort about the destruction of his Horcruxes. Someone set the alarms off and kept one death eater from being captured. Bellatrix Lestrange herself was the one Voldemort left behind so she could pick up the pieces and bring him back after the battle. That one piece of information changed the point of the war all together, no longer was it Voldemort's greed for power...it was his last attempt at survival. He came to them and made sure they didn't figure out his true last Horcrux. Voldemort sacrificed his own life and the war in a last ditch effort to salvage what was left of his plans. He left all of his hopes in one last Death Eater Bellatrix, the only one who knew the last Horcrux's location.
Bellatrix rose from the ashes her orders clear. The supposed end of the Death eaters was the true beginning of them. They could start a new with a clean slate. All their secrets hidden from the Order and Voldemort would be able to create a new series of Horcrux's...but this couldn't happen until Bellatrix did one thing. Until she gained the last Horcrux, the Marauder's map nothing would change. Bellatrix's fate, the fate of the Death Eaters, the fate of Voldemort, the fate of the order, the fate of the wizarding world and the muggle world alike all rested upon one thing...if the map was obtained by Bellatrix or destroyed by the Order...if they ever find out what it truly is.
